Shrimp Stir Fry Recipe

This shrimp stir fry recipe is both sweet and spicy. It also satisfies your need for Chinese take out.

It is quick and easy. It works well with frozen shrimp, but they must be thawed first.

Your local supermarket (HEB) sells frozen shrimp already deveined.

Sweet and Spicy Stir Fry Shrimp

Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound uncooked deveined large shrimp
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 small onion, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 small bell pepper, cut into 1 strips
  • 1 medium carrot, thinly sliced (1/2 cup)
  • Directions

    Stir together soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, red pepper and cornstarch. Mix well. Stir until cornstarch is dissolved. Set aside.

    Heat oil in a 12 inch skillet over medium heat.

    Stir-fry onion, bell pepper and carrot in oil 2 to 3 minutes or until tender.

    Stir in soy sauce mixture and shrimp.

    Stir-fry 3 to 5 minutes, until shrimp are pink and firm and the sauce is thickened.

    Serve over rice.
